Microsoft Unveils Pizza-Scented Xbox Controller for Promotional Campaign
Microsoft is known for its unique collaborations with Xbox, and its newest partnership is definitely the most fragrant. In an effort to promote the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem film, Microsoft is teaming up with Paramount to offer a limited number of Xbox controllers that emit the enticing aroma of pizza. This means that players can enjoy the scent of cheese and pepperoni while gaming, regardless of whether or not they have leftover pizza in their refrigerator from the previous night.
The design is available in four versions that reflect the style of the four turtles (Donatello, Leonardo, Michelangelo and Raphael). Aside from the built-in scent diffuser, these are otherwise stock Xbox controllers that just happen to ooze TMNT style. In Shredder’s Revenge, you won’t gain an advantage over your friends, other than looking and smelling the part.
You can’t buy one of these controllers even if you’ve been a TMNT fan since Eastman and Laird made the first comics. Instead, you must follow Xbox Game Pass on Twitter X and retweet the post by August 13th. If you absolutely must use a pizza-scented controller, they’ll be available at a promo event at Microsoft’s Experience Center on New York’s Fifth Avenue on August 2 — but you’re probably better off just ordering a pie and grabbing a snack between levels.
Yes, it’s a marketing ploy similar to the TMNT-themed Xbox Series X that Microsoft gave away two years ago. Ultimately, you’re doing more for Paramount than yourself. But look at it this way: unlike a Krispy Kreme Xbox donut, you’ll still have something to show your friends a few weeks from now.
